Global high purity aluminum
market is expected to grow at a steady CAGR in the predicted period. Aluminum
of 5N or 6N grade, especially with low alpha emitter content, is widely used in
specialty electronic and chemical applications. These comprise vacuum
deposition of thin films and coatings used in electronic devices, integrated
circuits and optical products.
High purity aluminum is also
used to coat wires, plates, particles (for use in flexible packaging for food
containers and labelling) and electrical conductors. High purity alloys are
shaped for the alumina catalyst market and for electronic ceramics such as
aluminum oxide and aluminum nitride. These alloys are also used as sputtering
targets in semiconductor, memory and LCD screen manufacturing.

The analytical
characterization of 5N or higher purity aluminum is not a simpletask, since
very low detection limits for the majority of elements are compulsory. The
ELEMENT GDTM features a glow discharge source coupled to a high-resolution mass
spectrometer (GD-MS) and enables the analyst to routinely achieve ultra-low
detection limits, down to the sub-ppb range in the solid, with a minimum of
sample preparation effort.
Aluminum is a comparatively
soft, tough, lightweight, ductile, and malleable metal with appearance reaching
from silvery to dull gray, contingent on the surface roughness. It is
non-magnetic and does not ignite easily. A fresh film of aluminum serves as a
good reflector (approximately 92%) of visible light and an excellent reflector
(as much as 98%) of medium and far infrared radiation.
